Punjab National Bank (PNB) has released the detailed notification for the recruitment of Local Bank Officers (LBO) in JMGS-I under HRP 2026-27. A total of 545 Local Bank Officer vacancies have been announced across multiple States/UTs.

Eligible candidates with a graduation degree in any discipline and at least one year of post-qualification experience in a Clerical/Officer Cadre in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank can apply, subject to the other conditions of the notification. The online application window is from 20 July 2026 to 9 August 2026.

PNB Local Bank Officer Recruitment 2026 – Brief Description

Punjab National Bank has invited online applications for the post of Local Bank Officer (LBO) in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I).

This recruitment is specifically designed for candidates who already have banking experience. Unlike many graduate-level bank recruitments, candidates applying for PNB LBO 2026 must possess at least one year of post-qualification work experience in Clerical/Officer Cadre in an eligible Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank.

Candidates can apply for only one State. The merit list will be prepared State-wise and category-wise, and selected candidates will initially remain posted within the State for which they applied.

PNB LBO 2026 – Important Local Language Rule

Candidates must be proficient in the local language specified for their selected State.

A Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) will be conducted for candidates who have not studied the concerned local language as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12.

Candidates who have studied the specified language in Class 10 or 12 can be exempted from the LLPT, provided they submit valid documentary evidence during verification.

The LLPT is qualifying in nature. A candidate who fails the LLPT will not be considered for final selection, regardless of performance in the written examination or interview.

PNB LBO Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must be:

Graduates in any discipline

The degree must be from a University/Institution recognised or approved by the Government of India or its regulatory bodies.

The candidate must possess a valid marksheet/degree certificate showing that they are a graduate on the date of registration and must enter their graduation percentage in the online application.


PNB LBO 2026 – Experience Required

This is one of the most important eligibility conditions.

Candidates must have:

Minimum 1 year of post-qualification work experience

The experience must be in:

  • Clerical Cadre, or

  • Officer Cadre

in:

  • Scheduled Commercial Banks, or

Experience in other financial institutions or organisations will not automatically be considered if the job profile is substantially different from that of a Scale-I Generalist Officer of PNB.

PNB LBO Exam – Negative Marking

There is negative marking in the online written examination.

1/4th of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

For example, if a question carries 1 mark, an incorrect answer results in a deduction of 0.25 mark.

PNB LBO Screening Process

Candidates qualifying in the Online Written Test will undergo document/application screening.

PNB will scrutinise the online application and supporting documents to determine whether the candidate fulfils the eligibility requirements before proceeding to the LLPT, wherever required, and/or interview.

If a candidate is found ineligible or the submitted documents are incorrect or false, the candidature can be rejected at that stage.


PNB Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)

Candidates who have not studied the relevant State language in Class 10 or Class 12 will have to appear in the LLPT.

The test evaluates:

  • Reading

  • Writing

  • Speaking

The LLPT is qualifying in nature. Candidates who fail to achieve the prescribed minimum marks will not be considered for final selection.

Candidates who studied the relevant language in Class 10 or 12 can be exempted after providing valid documentary evidence.

Candidates shortlisted after the written examination and LLPT requirements will be called for a Personal Interview.

PNB LBO 2026 – Important Service Conditions

1. State Posting

Selected candidates will be posted within the State for which they applied.

The notification states that LBOs will remain posted in the same State until:

  • Completion of 9 years of service, or

  • Promotion to SMG Scale IV,

whichever occurs earlier.

The initial vacancy section similarly specifies State-based posting for nine years or until promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever is earlier.


2. Probation

Selected Local Bank Officers will be on probation for:

2 years

from the date of joining.

Confirmation will be governed by the applicable Punjab National Bank Officers' Service Regulations.


3. Indemnity Bond

Selected candidates must execute an indemnity bond agreeing to serve PNB for at least:

3 years

If a candidate leaves the Bank before completing three years of active service, they may have to pay:

to the Bank under the bond conditions.


PNB LBO 2026 – CIBIL / Credit History Requirement

Candidates must maintain a healthy credit history.

At the time of joining, the notification requires:

Minimum CIBIL Score: 680

If the CIBIL status has not been updated, the candidate may need to get it updated or provide the required NOC from the lender regarding outstanding accounts adversely reflected in the CIBIL report.

Important

The CIBIL score requirement is not a pre-condition for applying.

Candidates without a bank account are not required to produce CIBIL status.


PNB LBO 2026 – Important Reservation Rules

OBC

Only eligible OBC Non-Creamy Layer candidates can claim OBC reservation.

OBC Creamy Layer candidates and candidates whose caste is not included in the Central OBC List should apply as Unreserved candidates.

EWS

EWS candidates must meet the prescribed Government of India income and asset criteria.

The notification specifies a family gross annual income below:

PwBD reservation is horizontal. Candidates must have a valid disability certificate in the prescribed format and may be subject to verification/re-verification.


PNB LBO 2026 – Scribe & Compensatory Time

Eligible PwBD candidates may use a scribe according to Government of India guidelines.

The candidate has to arrange their own scribe at their own cost.

Eligible candidates using a scribe can receive:

20 minutes compensatory time per hour

or such other time as prescribed under applicable guidelines.

Similar compensatory-time provisions are provided for eligible candidates with locomotor disability/cerebral palsy, visual impairment and certain intellectual disabilities.
